Vivan Sundaram

An Interesting journey. A white cube with a video, forms imposed on it's surfaces, there is a boat you can walk on, a shift to garbage, trash, the soles of the shoes, thousands of pink cap empty water bottles floating in the river Yamuna. All perishable, destroyed, like the video depicting a city of Trash and the dust storm in the end.

Discoveries... the space changed for me, the paper, the scale, holding the pen down, the 2 D space gives birth to layers, slows down the process, and millions of layers are born. There is an eagerness for Phase II, as if everything now has become an Investigation. The Role of the form is reversed, the act of appearance, disappearance, reappearance, fading, extending, flowing, unknown forms emerging, new darkness's, new highlights, overlapping and more elements yet to be discovered.

A walk through...

paper and the blade, he cuts through
there are directions...
shutter speed
neon lights
stars and mirrors
a home
spilling fuel

The City gardens

I am circling the park, I have come from far away, it's where i am, where i stand in this picture. The time does come back, it does reveal a certain truth. Enclosed gardens of the city. They let you view your city, the time and space which exists outside. The fence seperates you from something. The play of exterior and interior, of the darkness and the street light. The yellow street light has brightened the night. And i am hidden, not too far away, across the fence, inside the Enclosed city gardens.

and so it has started to rain tonite, the month of june, a pre monsoon shower, star lit cars in CP. The night of kerela, the fear of the night, away from light pollution....

From Shantiniketan to Religare

Jyoti speaks about his paintings, the journey from Orissa, Shantiniketan and Delhi, of settling, displacement, approaching Appropriation, Juxtaposing Mattisse in a painting, searching for his own identity, the confusion at college, incomplete series of paintings, variations in work struggling to be exhausted. We take a glimpse into his world - Nandlal bose's shantiniketan placed with artificial flowers, a sofa with a figurative touch, the measuring tape, the man placed  with wires, all of the paintings wanting to have a dialogue

he feels tired, exhausted, so much work, bringing so many memories back.... A cup of Cafe Latte, there is a slight breeze, cloudy skies in the month of June.

His next lot - loads and loads of drawings and watercolour....
